Your first dance after your wedding ceremony is a romantic and meaningful moment that you share with your new spouse and guests. You are the center of attention and this may be intimidating. Remember the happy memories you make you will cherish forever. The wedding dance is a ritual that has been transformed into a fun and heartwarming moment expressed in a traditional waltz or in a tantalizing tango.
The waltz is the traditional dance chosen by couples. Today the first dance has expanded to a variety of choices that couples make. One decision in choosing your dance is your music selection. There are many dance songs to choose from. Popular songs include “Endless Love”, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?”, “Unforgettable”, “At Last”, and”Tonight I Celebrate My Love For You”. Discuss with your DJ or band about the selections that you can choose from and pick a song that is meaningful to the both of you.
When the light lowers and the guests surround the dance floor you will have center stage for your first dance. You will glide together as the music starts. This will symbolize that the two of you are now joined as one. This is a significant, meaningful moment for the two of you and your guests. Enjoy these precious moments as they generally are the only ones you will have at the reception. Savor and enjoy the moment of celebration in your first dance with your spouse.
Some couples choose to shake things up after a traditional slow dance they change into a dance that has a faster beat. If waltzing is not your style choose a dance you do enjoy. The important thing is to have fun with your first dance. Remember, almost any style of dance may be customized to fit your needs and your wedding.
If you don’t know how to dance you need to find a dance studio. Tell the instructor what you wish to do and they will be able to design steps tailored to your style. Whether you dance a sexy samba or high-speed quick step a dance studio instructor will be able to modify the dance into steps you can do.
Your dance instruction will probably give you the following advice to be successful. Choose a song that is only two to three minutes long. Once you learn the steps practice with your partner to a CD. Have the CD on repeat to become comfortable with the steps. Practice your steps to other songs that have a faster and slower tempo. Practice at least three times a week for twenty minutes. Plan on taking from five to ten dance lessons. To plan your dance you need to know the size of the dance floor and how you will begin and finish the dance, Discuss with the DJ or band and photographer what you plan to do so they will be prepared.
When your dance begins remember your lessons and practice sessions. If something unexpected happens just relax and enjoy the moment. Remember, your guests do now know what steps are to be performed and will not notice a misstep.
